The Martin DX1AE acoustic-electric guitar is a solid-top dreadnought with excellent Fishman Sonitone electronics built right in, and a low oval neck shape -- found by many players to be more comfortable for more chordal styles of playing. The fit and finish are as elegant as any of Martin's other fine guitars, and the DX1AE comes in at a lower price than many of Martin's other models, without sacrificing quality.
A Nod to the Legendary D-14
The body follows the shape of Martin's famous D-14 with a solid sitka spruce top and laminate sides with a rosewood finish. The rust-colored Stratabond neck is shaped in a comfortable "low oval" shape that many players agree accommodates complex chordal playing more comfortably. It is set in the body with a mortise-and-tenon neck joint that imparts serious sustain and solidity of construction that you can really feel in your hands. The sound of the guitar is strong and clear, offering a bright top voice with lots of snap.
The neck measures out with a scale length of 25.4 inches, with 14 clear frets and 20 total. The fingerboard measures 1-11/16 inches at the nut and 2-1/8 inches at the 12th fret. The fingerboard is black Richlite, with a great feel and grip.
Hardware Feels Rock-Solid
The tuning machines up top are high-quality chrome in an enclosed design with small buttons. The DX1AE's saddle is a 16-inch radius compensated size in white Tusq. An elegant black and white boltaron rosette with red fiber accents the soundhole. The pickguard comes in a classic tortoise color.
Top-Shelf Electronics Built Right In!
The pre-installed Fishman Sonitone Onboard Preamp System features a soundhole-mounted preamp and gives you rotary controls to adjust Volume and Tone. Fishman's electronics are specially matched to the bright singing tone of this guitar, allowing you to "plug and play" immediately with whatever amplifier or house PA is at hand, for clear and faithful reproduction of the DX1AE's bright tone.
